Call for Bids Forecast Areas Updated

03/02/2016

The CNSOPB has updated the Call for Bids Forecast Areas map to include a new area for 2018. The Call for Bids Forecast Areas map is a 3-year, rolling map which outlines the area where CNSOPB staff will conduct a geological assessment to better understand the oil and gas potential of the area. The CNSOPB plans to post at least one parcel in each area in the year specified. The forecast allows both the public and industry to be aware of the CNSOPB’s plans well ahead of announcing specific parcels. Note: no parcels have been chosen, no new licences have been awarded, and no new activity has been proposed.

Prior to announcing specific parcels, the CNSOPB complete a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) over the general area. The SEA will include a review of the potential impacts of oil and gas on the area. Should a licence be awarded and should activity (such as a seismic program) be proposed, a project-specific Environmental Assessment must be undertaken, and must demonstrate to the CNSOPB that the proposed work can be done without significant adverse environmental impacts.
